Simple Ways to Reset Your Body, Mind & Soul When Life Feels Chaotic

Because sometimes, life is overwhelming, and you need a reset that doesn’t require a complete lifestyle overhaul.

We all reach that point where everything feels too loud, too stressful, and too overwhelming—and you just want to retreat and find some peace.

And despite what you may see on social media, you don't actually need a 10-step detox, or an expensive wellness routine to feel like yourself again.

Sometimes, a simple reset is all it takes. Here are small but powerful ways to refresh your body, mind, and soul—without adding more stress to your plate.

🥤 1. Hydrate (I know, so basic)

Before you do anything else, drink some water.

  • Dehydration can lead to brain fog, fatigue, and irritability.

  • Drinking water can help improve mood and energy levels.

🛁 2. Enjoy a Hot Shower or Bath with Aromatherapy

Water can have a calming effect on the nervous system. In fact, hot water relaxes muscles and reduces tension. I personally like to keep the temperature of my showers to blood curdling heat levels according to my husband, but a regular hot will do you just fine. Aromatherapy can enhance relaxation and improve mood.

If you are one of the lucky ones that has a bath, grab some epsom salts, a glass of water with some lemon or cucumber, and snuggle up with a podcast or an audiobook.

If you are one of the poor suckers who does not have a bath (me), fear not, there are options.

  • Use non-toxic shower steamers infused with essential oils for an at-home spa experience.

  • Choose scents like eucalyptus or lavender to promote relaxation.

  • Create a calming atmosphere with soft lighting or candles. Just be careful with the candles you pick (because we can't have nice things) so do some research and pick one you feel good about.

🧘‍♀️ 3. Move Your Body (Even Just a Little)

You don’t need to run a marathon to feel better - in fact, guaranteed I would feel much worse lol. Just move in a way that feels good—stretch, dance, do a few minutes of yoga or go surprise your spouse for some one-on-one time 😏

You already know the goodies about it - moving releases physical tension, boosts circulation and energy and helps lower anxiety!

💡 Struggle with motivation? Try the BetterMe App—this is what I use because getting through a workout is biiiiig swing and a miss but 12 minute somatic exercises that help me feel better and prove that I can still do things? Yep. Sounds good. Plus they have a whole whack of other workouts, recipes (with real measurements) and tracking. But YouTube videos work just as good!

4. Step Outside & Breathe (Yes, Even in the Cold)

Fresh air does wonders for your mind. It boosts mood & focus, helps regulate your nervous system, reduces mental fog & improves circulation. Now I know what you're thinking, and listen, I'm from Canada, and it sucks outside, I know. But even stepping outside for two minutes to do some intentional breathing or just reluctant breathing will feel soooo refreshing!! Plus, science says cold exposure is great for your immune system.

🕯 5. Declutter a Small Space (Because Mess = Stress)

Science backs this up—a cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind. Studies show that excessive clutter can increase cortisol levels, contribute to anxiety, and make decision-making harder.

Clearing just ONE small area can make a huge difference. I'm not asking you to Marie Kondo your crap, just clear off your bedside table or donate a couple articles of clothing you haven't worn in 2 years. We are all about small victories.

🙏 6. Engage in a Moment of Stillness

Taking time to pause can reconnect you with your inner self. For me, this takes the form of prayer, meditation, or quiet reflection. Again, all you need to do here is a few minutes - nothing crazy - and it can make a significant difference in your day.

Spend a couple of minutes at the beginning or end of the day jotting down what you are grateful for, and then thank God for it. Sometimes that's all you need to realize your day wasn't actually so bad. Sometimes, your day really was that bad, but the prayer reminds you that God has your back - always.

I love the Calm app (okay, okay, I got it because Nick Offerman has some stuff on there and if Ron Swanson is offering to lull me to sleep, I'm taking it), but there are lots of options out there! Find one that works for you.
